Texas State Move-In & Move-Out Checklist (San Marcos)

Every August thousands of Bobcats move into dorms and apartments, and every May they move back out. Here's a checklist to make it easier for students and parents.
Before move-in
Book your move-in time early. Texas State residence halls use move-in appointments in mid-August. Check reslife.txst.edu for this year's dates and your building's map.
Measure your space. Dorm rooms and studio apartments are small. Know what fits before you load the car or truck.
Pack by room, label every box with the room name and your name. Lots of boxes look the same on move-in day.
Bring a small tool kit and an extension cord. You'll use both on day one.
Move-in day
Arrive at your appointment time and expect lines and busy elevators.
Heavy items last: mini fridges, TVs and furniture go in after the boxes so hallways stay clear.
Second- and third-floor apartments? Plan for stairs. That's where an extra set of hands helps most.
Move-out day (May)
Start packing a week early. Finals week fills up fast.
Decide what's not coming with you: sell, donate, or have it hauled away.
Need storage for the summer? Our partner Ranch Road Storage in San Marcos has different unit sizes. See storage options.
