How to Choose a Moving Company in Austin & Round Rock

There are a lot of moving companies around Austin and Round Rock, and they're not all the same. Here's a simple way to check a mover before you hand over your things, from a local company that serves both.

1. Check the TxDMV number

In Texas, household movers have to be registered with the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles. A real mover shows its TxDMV number on its website, its trucks and its paperwork, and you can look it up on the TxDMV website. Ours is TxDMV No. 007203314C.

2. Ask about insurance

Ask what protection comes with your move and what it covers. A good mover answers clearly.

3. Get the quote in writing

A good quote spells out how you're charged (by the hour or a set price), crew size, the truck, and any extra charges for things like stairs, long walks, or a piano. If something isn't on the quote, ask before moving day.

4. Watch for red flags

  • No address, no TxDMV number, or a company name that keeps changing.

  • A price that's much lower than everyone else's.

  • A large cash deposit before anything is scheduled.

  • No written quote, or pressure to sign right away.

5. Read recent reviews

Look at the company's Google reviews, especially the newest ones. Notice how the company answers complaints.

6. Ask the right questions

  • Are your movers your own employees?

  • What happens if something is damaged?

  • How do you protect floors, doorways and furniture?

  • Can you handle stairs, elevators, or a piano or gun safe? (For very heavy items, a good mover will want to talk it through first.)

7. Pick a mover who knows the area

Downtown Austin high-rises with elevator reservations, HOA rules in Round Rock neighborhoods, and I-35 traffic all change how a move goes. A local crew plans for them.
